Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, curious ones. So much awaits! I hope you had a lovely and peaceful holiday. I have mixed thoughts on New Years as a holiday. On the one hand, I love how joyful and exciting it can be to have a “rebirth”, I love the countdown, love dancing and sharing it with loved ones. I also really like the introspection/reset it offers.

That being said, the Gregorian calendar is only 500 years old, and pretty much every other calendar/culture seems to agree that the REAL start of the year is the beginning of spring - and that we are still in the time of hibernation. I think that’s why a lot of resolutions don’t end up sticking. All to say, if this New Years wasn’t what you wanted, or you’ve already broken resolutions, you have this spring to try again! And it’s ok to rest, too.

Some interesting facts about this year!

  • It’s numerologically represented by the number 8, meaning it’s going to be much more action-packed and hopefully productive than the sleepier, more lethargic 2023

  • In the Chinese Zodiac Calendar, it’s the Year of the Dragon (like my birth year)

  • It’s a leap year!

I’ve been liking the word “intentions” instead of resolutions. Perfectionism can make us give up instead of continually reaching towards our goals. So, in 2024, what are some intentions you have?

Here are mine:

  • figure out how to reframe the definition of what it means to be a musician in 2024 into something more responsible and loving and also rule-breaking

  • make more headway improving my health, physically (POTS and EDS) as well as mentally

  • live more in the present and be even more whimsical and silly and fuck-it

  • dance more

  • record new music!!

  • love on my friends more

  • other secret musical projects 🤫

I wanted to ask YOU, what would you like to see on Calista’s Curiosities this year?

Wishing you love, health and happiness in 2024,

- Cal
