The Legend of Bubblebeard
Sing a song of Bubblebeard! Not to be mistaken with Bluebeard, the cautionary tale and boogie man of women’s psyches, or Blackbeard, the great, fearsome pirate, (though he knows Blackbeard). Bubblebeard is also a pirate, but he runs his ship a little differently.
Known for his beard being yes, made out of bubbles, Bubblebeard and his crew enjoy tea, playing with balloons, yo-yos, and all things light and diverting. His main tactic for acquiring treasure is usually just saying “please” or bartering with finger painting portraits. They have regular themed nights on the ship, game nights, and dance parties.
Originally a bit Henry and I came up with, we both agreed we’d both like to be on Bubblebeard’s ship if we were pirates. And then “Bubblebeard” surpassed its lore to become a type of person: whimsical, non-threatening; a sweetiepie.
I wanted to share Bubblebeard for anyone who’s been feeling heavy this month, and could use a lift. There’s a time for feeling the weight of the world, so we can know what must be changed. But if we spend too much time in the heaviness, we lose all energy and strength to do anything at all. There’s a time for being like Blackbeard, swashbuckling, and breaking rules. And yes, there’s a time for Bubblebeard.
So I encourage you to brainstorm and write out, what lifts you up? Is it connecting with friends/loved ones, creative work, good food, good workouts/wellness, movies, songs? Sometimes it can be the silliest things that ground us the most.
Wishing You Love & Bubbles,
Cal
